When youre selling your product, do you feel like you are bothering people when you call them? Or maybe youre just intimidated by the whole process of selling over the phone. This is probably the most common business problem I hear about in speaking engagements and individual coaching.Getting your b*utt on the phone can get you more business several ways. You are reminding the call recipient of your marketing message, building a relationship, giving and receiving referrals and getting sales. Understanding this is the first step toward picking up the phone.

The next step requires serious work. You need to become extremely familiar with your product, your ideal client and the benefits your client derives from your product. Next, you need to write scripts for all possible outcomes. Finally, you need to have a planned outcome for the call and be prepared for that outcome.Becoming extremely familiar with your product requires first listing all features of your product. This list should include its function, appearance, price, how to get it, etc. From this list, create a new list with the benefits your clients get from purchasing your product. This list can include things like saving time and/or money, improving health or appearance, providing joy, etc.The next step, which I learned to do from the book “Jump Start Your Business Brain” by Doug Hall, is to make from your list of benefits a new list – of overt benefits. Overt benefits are often quantifiable and help to differentiate your product from others. For example, instead of saying your product saves your customers time, you would say it saves your customers an average of 1 hour per day. Instead of saying that your product improves health, you might say that your product eliminates morning back stiffness in 3 out of 4 people surveyed.Dont be surprised if this process takes hours and several iterations before youre happy with the result. You may want to ask your current and past customers for their input. In my experience, they are usually happy to help.To become extremely familiar with your ideal customer may also take a substantial time investment. FOR MARKETING PURPOSES, it is important to target a segment of the general market for your product. The reason for this is that people are bombarded with marketing messages constantly from every possible source. You need to make an emotional connection with individuals in order to get your message through, and the best way to do that is to target a group that is interested in buying your product.Research what turns them on about your product and its benefits and use that in your marketing message.Once this work is initially behind you, you will need to write a script for every possibility, including, but not limited to:

• If they answer the phone

• If someone else answers and asks to take a message

• If someone else answers and tries to prevent you from talking to the decision maker

• If you get a machine

• If the prospect has questionsAlways keep in mind what you are selling – the product or an appointment to sell the product. This is your planned outcome and makes a big difference in your scripts. Also, when they say yes, get whatever important info you need and get off the phone. NOTE: *NEVER* call your best prospect first! Practice on the mediocre prospects first.Finally, you need to be prepared for the prospect to say yes! You need to have your calendar open, order forms at the ready, be ready to take credit cards or whatever else you need in order to process the ‘yes. Make it as easy as possible for the sale to take place.After going through this process, maybe several times, you should feel much more confident. Your prospects will benefit from your product – youre doing them a favor by allowing them to purchase it! An improperly used training collar will do no good, and it can harm your training program by causing the Shih Tzu to become confused and frightened. There are several important things to consider when choosing and fitting a training collar.

The first consideration when choosing a training collar is how the collar fits the Shih Tzu. It is vital that the training collar be fitted properly to the Shih Tzu. Only a properly fitted training collar will be effective for the Shih Tzu.

The training collar must also be put on the Shih Tzu the right way. Unlike a normal buckle collar, there is a definite right way and wrong way to put on a training collar, and putting it on the wrong way can make the collar ineffective or even dangerous.

In addition to being fitted and sized properly, the training collar must be used properly as well. The training collar is designed to provide a reminder, not a punishment. It is very important to never use steady pressure with a training collar. A training collar works by providing a sharp pressure, followed by an immediate release of pressure.

The weight of the chain and the size of the links on the training collar are very important when choosing a training collar. The weight of the chain should be appropriate for the size and weight of the Shih Tzu. For instance, you would not use a heavy chain on a 10 pound Shih Tzu, just as you would not use a very light chain on a 100 pound dog.

When using a training collar, it is very important to place the collar on the Shih Tzu properly. The collar must be placed on the Shih Tzu properly in order to be effective.

It is relatively easy to determine the length of training collar your Shih Tzu needs. The appropriate size of the collar is the distance around the animals neck, plus 2-3 inches. This is important in order for the collar to function as intended. It is important that the training collar loosen properly when the leash is slackened, and that it tighten instantly to provide the sharp correction when needed.

If the connecting piece of the training collar is placed anywhere except on the top of the Shih Tzus head, the training collar will not loosen properly when the leash is slackened. This constant pressure on the training collar will be counterproductive, since the Shih Tzu will not understand what is being asked of it or why the pressure is not being relieved when it does as it is asked.

Yoga in Practice: Excuses for Lack of Practice

At one time, or another, we all think, “Why am I here?” Sometimes we think, “Why do I even bother?” Thinking about giving up is a temptation for all of humankind, but we continue to pursue our goals just like our ancestors did.

My wife, Marie, puts it bluntly, “You have two choices, push forward or give up.” Sometimes, it is a joy to sit in the back of her Yoga classes, so I can listen to a candid approach to life and teaching Yoga.

Look at how far we have come as a species in regards to Yoga, art, holistic health, medicine, technology, and much more. It is easy to look at the downside of humanity, but a lot of our ancestors did not give up. In fact, they recorded past failures and achievements from which we could learn.

As a Yoga practitioner, or Yoga teacher, you have the

ability to learn a complete health maintenance

system, “loaded with archives.” The archives of Yoga are so plentiful that none of us will be able to study, digest, and practice it all in one lifetime. We know that knowledge is power, and Yoga will improve our lives exponentially.

In getting back to making excuses: Everyone makes them now and then. Some Yoga practitioners have stated they are too old, too stiff, and too weak to continue practicing with intensity. Most Yoga students, interns, and Yoga teachers, will admit to being distracted by life. Sometimes, this is a good thing because your body, or mind, needs a rest, and

a little change is harmless.

However, this is not an endorsement to avoid the benefits of steady Yoga practice. Also, this is not an endorsement to become a “couch potato.” Having worked with Yoga students who have a variety of physical disabilities, Yoga can be practiced on your couch, on the floor, in your bed, or sitting down.

Granted, some of the vigorous styles of Yoga would have to be modified, but there is still no reason to abandon Yoga practice for long. Having seen the improvement of Yoga students in wheelchairs, and hospital beds, there is no reason why the study of Yoga should be, “put on the back burner.”

There is a saying that, “Seeing is believing.” This is true for most of the world, but the evidence of improved health, from steady Yoga practice, is obvious. If you want to worry less, become stronger, become more flexible, or clear your mind, Yoga does all of these things and much more.

There is no excuse for keeping the gift of Yoga to

yourself. If you have seen Yoga improve your life, you are a “witness”, and you have the ability to help others improve their lives. Almost every obstacle that life throws in front of us can be overcome, unless we give up.

Helping the Child Who is Expressing Anger

When you hear about children killing other children, you may think, “I don’t know a single child who could do such a thing.”

Too often the daily news confirms that children and teens can be violent, even deadly. As parents, families, teachers and members of the community, what can we do to help children cope with angry feelings–from frustration to rage?

Some young people turn to violence, because they do not see other ways to endure what they are feeling at that moment. They may not anticipate the repercussions of their violence.

These tips may help when you recognize a child who is withdrawing or exploding over everyday frustrations:

• Listen to what the child is saying about his or her feelings and be willing to talk about any subject. Young people today are dealing with adult problems such as love, sex, relationships, failure and rejection. Unfortunately, their minds and bodies simply are not ready for these stresses.

• Provide comfort and assurance. Tell the child that you care about his or her problems. Show confidence in his or her ability to tackle life’s ups and downs.

• Tell the child that everyone experiences anger. Tell him or her about the last time you felt really angry and how you dealt with that anger in a positive way.

• Encourage the child to shift gears—to spend some time doing things he or she really likes to do—playing sports, walking someone’s dog, or reading a book. A different activity can refocus thoughts and help alleviate some of the angry feelings.

• Teach basic problem-solving skills. When upsetting situations arise, the child who has practiced these skills will be more likely to think through the consequences of different actions and will, ultimately, make a better choice than violence.

• Look at how you handle your own anger. Are you setting a good example? Would you want to be imitated by a child who admires you?

• Acknowledge good behavior. When a child deals with his or her anger in a positive way, praise the positive choice. Take every opportunity to reinforce strengths. Build the child’s awareness of his or her own talents and abilities.

If none of these approaches seems to work, and the child stays angry or withdrawn for a long time, seek help. Talk to your family doctor or pediatrician. Together, you may decide that your child and family need help from someone with more mental health training.
